growing up in scotland in the 1970s in scotland the anointed were few and far between, but we had one old dude in our cong who claimed to be one of the anointed.
in the days when it was taken seriously.. i'd be curious how you viewed them.
thing is, he wasn't an elder, or even a ministerial servant, just a plain old publisher.. but he was revered like he had a hotline to jesus.. the other week i was talking to a friend of similar age to me but who hung around the wt a lot longer than i did, and he just commented "oh him... he was a doddery old fool who used to just sit and piss himself.
Yes, back in the 1950/60's when I was growing up there were four in my congregation. The oldest of them was a brother, born in the 1880's who expected to go to heaven in 1914. He worked full time to raise his family but once he retired he pioneered until his death in the 1970's.
None of them were "whacky" in any sense of the word, just hard working and sincere people.
I suspect the "new anointed" are somewhat different but I have never met any.

apparently the jws of coventry, england, have been spending their congregation's money buying names and addresses from the local council.
i wonder what they want them for and is this something that each congregation does?
i'm curious now.
A congregation near me were setting up a Spanish group. They asked for volunteers to spend time at the local library trawling through the Electoral Role to locate Spanish names. These properties were then specifically targeted with Spanish speaking witnesses carrying Spanish literature.
I suspect this is something similar, buy the lists and look through them in comfort where the librarian is not looking over your shoulder to check you don't photograph the list to save paying for the information.

i can`t believe the tidbits i`m finding out about the changes ,dumbing down of the meetings i used to attend and participate in up until the late 1980`s ...
that same brother (that's if he's still alive) has trashed his brief case along with that boatload of literature
His brain has also gone the same way. No thinking is required at the meeting anymore, in fact it's positively discouraged.

i went to the meeting on thursday night to hear my grandson and my daughter give their "talk" on the misery school!.
the very first part on the next meeting that follows the misery school was a 15-20 minute part, with a video of course, on the many ways to donate money to the wt!
This item has been done every November for years. This last two years it's a video item. Previously it was based on a WT article.
They've long forgotten Russell's statement that when they have to ask for donations it's time to stop or whatever...

I wonder what ToMo III does when he gets tooth ache. A visit to the Bethel Chippie department maybe? They're bound to have a decent pair of pliers there! No need for a qualified dentist, we will have no need of them after Armageddon either.
Likewise with opticians and doctors. When they need them they will be there, no three week waiting for an appointment either. They simply could not exist without University graduates.
The hypocrisy of these people is beyond belief.

some people on this forum have said that they never really believed any aspect of wt teaching, that they couldn't wait to get free of it all.. others seems to have been really gung ho, believing it all until something happened that got you questioning "the truth.".
i would say my own high water mark was about 50%, which put me squarely on the fence, trying to decide if i should be in or out.. how about you?.

All of it. Brainwashed from birth of course. Appointed as a Servant at 18, vacation pioneered all the usual. Then I got married and my wife encouraged me to go to University as we didn't have a lot of money. So I did and then concentrated on building a good career. So I never really thought about the doctrines, just bumbled along.
Fast forward to December 1986 (or 87, can't remember) when the group study stopped. I spent the time doing research and soon found this site. I soon realised two things, (1) I knew nothing about the Bible and (2) I knew nothing about JW's.
I am still a PIMO due to family especially Sis England and the fact I employ some really good JW's to do work for me.
If only the internet had been around in 1960.
